Campaigning
- The National
Union of Teachers has an excellent website where you can
find lots of information about Academies and Trust schools as well as
tips on how to organise opposition.
- The NUT isn't the only teaching union opposed to the
government's
plans. The NASUWT
aren't that keen on them either.
- Here are UNISON's less
than flattering thoughts on the subject. (This is in pdf format).
- There has been at least one successful campaign against
City Academies.
Parents at Conisbrough
And Denaby were concerned when they heard that
Sir Peter Vardy had been invited to take over their local school. They
investigated further and didn't like what they found. See how they
managed to keep control of their local school.
- Parents on the Isle
of Sheppey are taking legal action to try and prevent the
privatisation of their school.
- As are the people of Merton.
- The citizens of Northumberland
have put together a truly superb site describing their attempts to
retain control of their schools.

Information
- The New
Labour spin on City Academies. Note the almost complete lack of any
figures anywhere on this site, other than the £2million supplied
by sponsors. This sounds like a lot until you realise you are chipping
in ten times that amount.
- The Campaign for State Education (CASE)
gives its view on academies.
- Some facts and figures from the New
Statesman.
- The File
on 4 investigation
into how academies ignore the neediest children.
- There are lots of instances of the Labour party forcing
Academies on unwilling communities, for example in Hackney,
and in Merton
- The
Guardian has presented lots of evidence to show that Academies just
don't work.
- The views of a former pupil
of King's Academy.
